Image:

This poster depicts a person wearing a black shirt, with a tiny bow on the neck, and with numbers on it :1988-???? ,which clearly refers to the year of birth and death, like on a tombstone. The person is strapped with a seatbelt, which covers the year of death, thus the year of death is unknown. There is also a caption at the bottom-right corner of the image, which states "Buckle up, stay alive".

Layout:

The seatbelt covers the date of death, which clearly tells us that the seatbelt is making the year unknown. It means that the seatbelt can prolong our lives. This highly supports the purpose of this poster itself, which is to let people know that seatbelt saves lives.

Colour:

The person shown in the image is wearing black to signify death, since black=darkness=death. The seatbelt tells us that the seatbelt prolonged this person's life, because the death date is unknown, but the person is wearing black. So this person escaped death.

Words:

The years on this person's shirt resembles the years depicted on a tombstone, and is meant to signify death. This person has an unknown death year, which shows that this person is still alive (caused by the seatbelt). There is a caption at the bottom-right of the image, which tells us the meaning of this poster in case some people do not know, which is almost impossible.

Typographical Features:

The words on the bottom-right corner are small white, and located at the corner to draw the viewers' attention only to the person, the seatbelt and the birth and death years. This brings out the message, and attracts the viewers. If the words are too big, due to the contrast between the white letters and  the black clothing, the viewers will only read the words and ignore the rest of the poster. The words are white because it cannot be seen if it is black, and those people who do not know the meaning will not understand.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Summary

Purpose: To let people know that wearing seatbelts can prolong life, and get them to wear.
Audience: The general public.
Context: Seatbelts save lives.
Culture: A black shirt is used to express death, along with the birth and death years. The seatbelt is used to show that it saved the user's life.

Rae's visual text analysis

Image
This picture depicts someone wanting to light a cigarette which is tied to a ticking clock, resembling a bomb which would explode.

Colour
The dim colour of the photo and the light from the lighter will allow readers to be reminded of a candlelight ceremony, also similarly known as a funeral, expressing that smoking kills.

Layout
The main focus of the picture is the ticking clock and the lighter about to light the cigarette, which many would relate to a bomb. It clearly shows the consequences of smoking, it's like a bomb which could explode anytime and cannot be salvaged if not quickly stopped. What's next would be the text at the bottom, "Every breath you take will eventually destroy your future", summarising the main point of the whole poster.

Word
The sentence "Every breath you take will eventually destroy your future" is to tell readers the consequence of smoking. The text isn't the most eye-catching thing or main point in the poster, but more of to summarise the meaning of the ticking time bomb.

Typographical features
The font used is simple and the text size is also very small as the greater point in the photo is the ticking time bomb.

Purpose : To discourage readers from smoking
Audience : Smokers
Context : To inform readers, especially smokers the danger and consequences of smoking
Culture : It uses a ticking time bomb to express the danger of smoking.

Poster Analysis [Alya]

IMAGE
This poster shows a fish in a "bottle" which is used to store oil or car petrol filled with water.

LAYOUT
The fish and the bottle are placed in the middle to tell viewers it is the main focus. The message is placed on the top left of the poster. Maybe the poster designer did this intentionally so that the viewer would look at the picture and understand it before reading the message. If the viewer did that, he would probably understand the message better than when he does it vice versa.

COLOUR
The poster is blue in colour, a colour most people associate with water. And most of the things in the bottle is vivid, which in my opinion, represents lives. Also, the corner of the posters are a darker shade of blue than in the middle which once again, shows the focus of the poster.

WORDS
The words used in the message is simple yet impactful. It shows and reflects on us, how we are wasting water. Water is easily accessible to us yet others around the world and those in countries like Africa are dying due to the lack of clean water which leads to not being able to farm and they suffer from dehydration and hunger.

TYPOGRAPHICAL FEATURES
The size of the words are small and as said earlier it is to tell viewers that the picture is the main focus so people understand the message the designer intended to give.

Purpose: To raise awareness about water pollution (the bottle and the fish)
Audience: Car drivers who are unaware about water pollution caused by patrol
Context: It allows car drivers to change their "type" of patrol to something eco-friendly.
Culture: The bottle is representing the oil and the fish, life. If the bottle, which is suppose to be filled with oil, is empty, water pollution in the rivers and lakes will reduce and more underwater animals can survive.

Analysis of a Poster

This poster has quote inside that is from John webster. The full quote goes like this,"Whether we fall by ambition, blood, or lust, like diamonds we are cut with our own dust".

Image: There is a Diamond depicted in this image but at the bottom there seems to be in the form of a drop of blood dripping from the diamond. This supports the quote in the poster as the quotes' meaning is that the reason we all fall in the end is due to our own ambition,Blood or lust.

Colors:The image has a lot of dark colors inside like black and grey. The diamond is formed by white lines and a dark inside giving a contrast to the dark background. This is a representation that when man looks at his reflection ,all he sees is the purity of him and that he is unable to see his own flaws. However ,others around him also have  flaws and they also believe that they are perfect. Thus, every single one of them cannot see their flaws when compared to others.

Words: There are not many words in this poster. The only words here are "like diamonds we are cut with our own dust".This makes the poster simple but gives it a deeper meaning.Diamonds are the hardest materials on the planet which means that diamonds can only be cut by themselves. This being compared with man says that only man can be the cause of the fall of man.

Typographical features:The letters are in italics which gives the poster a proffesional meaning.

Layout:The diamon is the main image in the poster so people will defintely notice it first and then the drop of blood.

Purpose:To show that everyone has flaws.
Audience :Everyone that has flaws.
Context:It makes people try to improve them
Culture: You can always improve yourself

Purpose
The goal of this poster is to discourage people from consuming drugs and those who consume drugs to stop consuming.

Words
The phrase "ONE LITTLE THING LEADS TO THE NEXT" allows readers to know that everything has consequences, In this case, trying just one pill of the drug can cause death because drugs are addictive time and an overdose of it will kill.
