Draft 2, Situational Writing [Alya]

7 Sim Lim Park
Singapore 123456

7 April 2016

Hey Lily

How are you? I am so excited that you are coming to Singapore in five months! I can't wait to show you around Singapore. I hope you are as excited as I am and I hope you will enjoy your stay here!

After your breakfast at the hotel, I encourage you to go to Chinatown and ride around the place in a trishaw to experience the cultural and modern aspects of Singapore. Yes, Chinatown has it all. You could visit beautifully restored shophouses, religious landmarks of different faiths, not forgetting your favourite, bargaining at the lively street market where you can purchase souvenirs, fashion apparel and leather goods. In order to experience a full cultural experience, we can proceed to Little India and wonder around the beautiful districts, walk into gaily painted shophouses selling traditional apparel, gold bangles, spices and other wares. Also, you can pick up last-minute souvenirs at the 24-hour shopping centre, Mustafa Centre. Do not forget to try the infamous fish head curry!

Chinatown, as mentioned earlier, is both cultural and modern. So, I thought of bringing you to a place where it's modern. You would be able to dine there while enjoying a great view! I am planning to bring you to the Singapore Flyer where you can view Singapore's iconic landmarks. Not forgetting that they serve local dishes like laksa and rojak which I bet you cannot wait to try. Other than admiring the view and the great dishes you are going to taste, you can take on the role of a pilot using the Real Flight Simulator. It sounds interesting, doesn't it?

I hope you will find the activities planned a blast. I can't wait to see you!

With love,
Alya

Creative Task 5 [Alya]

Dear Mac,
There's nothing to write about except the many eraser dust on the table left there by me during art class. Interesting, aren't they? They come in many shapes and sizes, just like the people on this planet, like minions evading my table. They make me feel like a giant due to their tiny size. Makes me feel like I have control over them.

Everything at home is boring except for two little creatures which visited my house last week, their scaly little hands mesmerised me but what happened shocked and disgusted me. Remember the funny thai advertisement we watched? That was exactly what happened to the lizard's. My heart sank but felt disgusted as I had to clean it up.

I haven't been doing much except train for the upcoming and what I feel unnecessary napfa. I think I stressed my stomach muscle too much, it's aching now. I should have exercised when I could and listen to our primary school physical education teacher.

I hope you are having a better life than me. Write to you soon!

Your friend,
Alya

Creative Writing Task 4 [Alya]

After a night of howling weather, I went out early just to see if the old folk tree had fallen, if the roof of my neighbours house caved in and if the drains had flooded and if the village was flattened as if a giant had trampled over it.
The houses, however, were not flattened but still intact with the ground and still in shape. The trees help their branches up high towards the early morning sun. And the seas kissed the shore gently.
The trees rustled in the wind as the birds chirped happily, warming their bodies in the sun. The sea waves whispered softly and there were soft murmurs that started to come from the small cottages as the road started to fill up with cars. The sun started to rise as the city started to get busier. The city started to wake up when i realised how clean the place looked and how fresh the air smelled when I was prowling in the streets alone, early in the morning.
Not wanting to worry my parents and look like a prowler, I scurried home before my mum woke up.

Poster Analysis [Alya]

IMAGE
This poster shows a fish in a "bottle" which is used to store oil or car petrol filled with water.

LAYOUT
The fish and the bottle are placed in the middle to tell viewers it is the main focus. The message is placed on the top left of the poster. Maybe the poster designer did this intentionally so that the viewer would look at the picture and understand it before reading the message. If the viewer did that, he would probably understand the message better than when he does it vice versa.

COLOUR
The poster is blue in colour, a colour most people associate with water. And most of the things in the bottle is vivid, which in my opinion, represents lives. Also, the corner of the posters are a darker shade of blue than in the middle which once again, shows the focus of the poster.

WORDS
The words used in the message is simple yet impactful. It shows and reflects on us, how we are wasting water. Water is easily accessible to us yet others around the world and those in countries like Africa are dying due to the lack of clean water which leads to not being able to farm and they suffer from dehydration and hunger.

TYPOGRAPHICAL FEATURES
The size of the words are small and as said earlier it is to tell viewers that the picture is the main focus so people understand the message the designer intended to give.

Purpose: To raise awareness about water pollution (the bottle and the fish)
Audience: Car drivers who are unaware about water pollution caused by patrol
Context: It allows car drivers to change their "type" of patrol to something eco-friendly.
Culture: The bottle is representing the oil and the fish, life. If the bottle, which is suppose to be filled with oil, is empty, water pollution in the rivers and lakes will reduce and more underwater animals can survive.

Sci-Fi story [Alya]

         Name:Alya
         Class: S104
         Tittle: The "Invasion" (checked)

Screams of agony filled the air as mysterious figures crumbled to the ground of the City Hall. Alec’s light blue eyes could not endure what lay before him. He pulled up his hoodie as he jumped out of the shadows into the sun, covered - Alec was allergic to sunlight. He dashed to the commander.

"Stop, please! You know the reason why they are here! They are not here for war like this!" Alec screamed over the chaos.

In response to Alec, the Commander lifted his right hand up and there was silence. So sudden and eerie that it made the hair on Alec’s neck stand. He turned to look at the City Hall. It used to be a peaceful and beautiful place with bullets and ultraviolet protection (UV) protection, it was a huge hall, made for those like Alec who had sun allergy. Now it was a mess with bullets and blood.

Alec sighed as the Commander ordered his men to stop attacking and allowed the aliens to stay. In the first place, the Commander started this war. Before anyone knew about the aliens, there were disappearances of belongings of people and weeks later, someone say a mysterious figure lurking near a cool surface, recorded it and it spread like wildfire. The scientists then discovered that Jace’s species of aliens were made out of water vapour and could only be seen when they touch a cooler surface. Moreover, during the war, to Alec’s surprise, the Commander created a weapon that is so cold that when it touch the aliens, they condensed and received the impact of the bullet.

The reason the aliens came here was to gather resources so that they could improve the situation on Pluto - where they came from. Alec was relieved as the war passed faster than expected. But, something told him that it could not be this easy and the end is yet to come. He was not wrong.

After a few weeks, the humans gained trust from the aliens. And today, there was a huge gathering involving all aliens. The aliens were told not to wear their protective gear that protects them from the sun. Alec found it fishy but due to the strong trust built between them and the commander, they listened.

“It’s going according to plan, get ready,” the commander whispered.

As he started his speech, the Commander’s crew got ready. In the midst of the speech, shrieking filled the air as Alec turned as white as a sheet of paper while feeling a burn on his skin. He did not realize that the roof of the hall was open. His eyes widened as he realized the Commander’s plan. Aliens were allergic to sunlight too! They rushed for shelter as Alec raced to the switch which moves the roof back to place.

“On time,” he murmured as he glanced around; however, to his dismay, the aliens skin reaction was faster than his and all of them had crumbled to the ground in ashes. Laughter filled the hall as Alec walked away. He never thought this would happen. He lost a great friend.

Defeated, he put his head in his hands and started sobbing. He did not bring peace between humans and aliens, he allowed the commander to win, right under his nose.

Creative Writing 3[Alya]

When I was a child, I well remember the time when I received my first device, the iPad. I was thrilled on the night I received the cool device. However, I was only allowed to play with the device the next day. I came back from school with a sense of excitement and hurried to my mum's room to grab it. But, there was a little, evil human using it already. My baby sister. My mum told me gently that I had to share it with her. Annoyed, I sat beside her. I wanted to watch my own show but she was watching a boring “ABC” song.

Due to my poor anger management, I pushed her off my mum’s bed. She fell with a loud thud and my mum came in screaming her head off. She shrieked at me commanding me to go into my room.

I told her ok and grabbed the iPad and scurried to my room but my mum was too quick. She snatched the iPad out of my arms as I passed her. I whined and stomped my feet and ran into my room punching my pillow with fury. I stared at the ceiling with tears in my eyes. I fell into a dose as my anger slowly faded into sleepiness.

I woke up in the middle of the night when I felt a slight push on my right arm. I woke up and tried to see past the darkness but my eyes could not adjust my eyes could not quick enough and gave up when a reassuring arm laid on my leg. I slept uneasily afraid that the lovely spell could be broken.

The next morning, when i recalled what happened, I was puzzled and curious. But being young and afraid, I did not say anything and I still do not know who laid that arm on me that night.

WRITING TASK 2 (ALYA)

The carpark lay before him. Deserted and silent in the centre of nowhere. Leaves and all kinds of litter crunched under his feet. It seemed like an abandoned area for years with weird stuff on the ground, decomposing.

He strode into the car park his nose held high in the air comforting himself while shoving all the rumors about that place out of his head.

He strode blindly into space when a low hissing sound filled the thick, filthy air. He snapped into reality as he spotted a white small white eye! One eye! It was staring back at him. His body stiffened as the eye disappeared. He stood silently, rooted to the spot, waiting, to see if the monster reappeared. For awhile, nothing. His body relaxed and he told himself to stop hallucinating. He let out a breath as he ventured deeper into the carpark.

A few moments later, he heard the same hiss again, in fact, it started to turn into a soft growl. Was it a one-eyed bear that roamed this cave? He shivered and thought he saw something behind and spun, but nothing. His heart started running a marathon as he dashed into the darkness not knowing what lay ahead.

Unfortunately, no one saw him ever again.

WRITING TASK 1 (ALYA)

She had short mushroom-like hair with crooked teeth and always wore baggy jeans with a polo shirt. Her eyes were always full of joy and friendliness. She loved to chew on marshmallows and sweets, and it made her earrings sparkle in the light.

A place I enjoyed playing when I was little was my auntie’s house. Even though her house lacked of toys, I enjoyed playing with her cats. They were loving and friendly. Sometimes, when I was young, I would sneak up the stairs into my uncles room to play games with the cats by my side.

I really enjoyed sitting on the coach and watching tv. It was soft under my body and had little teddy bear prints on it. It was my very own coach near the window. From my coach, I could see the trees and sometimes yellow minors perched on them. It was a beautiful sight.
